Abstract

In this article attempt was made to study the scientific productions of IRANIAN scientific-research institutions in ISI Web of Science database in a 10-year period from 1997 to 2006, in three groups: UNIVERSITIES, RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS, and other institutions; and to compare the difference between these three groups in terms of QUANTITATIVE and QUALITATIVE indicators. Research results indicated that based on QUALITATIVE indicators such as citation, impact factor, and percentage of citied documents, there was no significant difference among the three groups, while UNIVERSITIES were in a more desirable situation in terms of QUANTITATIVE indicators of production. In other words, no significant relationship was seen between the type of institution and other variables such as QUALITATIVE variables of citation, impact factor, and percentage of cited documents; while, there is a significant relationship between the same variable and· QUANTITATIVE variable of production rate. Among the most probable important reasons are the quality and quantity of manpower employed in the UNIVERSITIES who are usually in a mentioning that the total number of authors cited in Social Sciences were very low as compared to that of authors in Sciences.
