Introduction: Pain relief during routine procedures such as inserting IV or intravenous treatment is affected patient satisfaction of care. The aim of this study was to evaluate comparative effects of quinine plant and lidocaine on pain of venipuncture respectively. Methods: This study was an interventional study in 1394. Samples were selected by convenience sampling from patients referred to the hospital emergency department. Informed consent was obtained from the samples. There were divided into three groups randomly, intervention by quinine, intervention of lidocaine and control.10 puffs of lidocaine 10% for 15 minutes in lidocaine group were applied on the position of the vessel up to 3 cm diameter circular.10 puffs alcoholic extract quinine 10% for 15 minutes in quinine group was used before taking on the position of the vessel. The data gathering tools includes Pain Visual Analogue Scale, and anxiety analogue scale. The data were analyzed via SPSS version 16 by chi-square, Fisher exact, Independent t-test, paired sample t-test and ANOVA.Results: There is no statistically significant difference in the three groups between pain and anxiety scale scores. Despite the pain was not significant statistically in all three groups, but the mean pain score in the lidocaine group (M=3.38) less than quinine (M=4.37) and control groups (m=4.60), respectively. Conclusion: According to study Quinine and lidocaine are not effective on pain of venipuncture. The pain of venipuncture, especially in emergency situations should seek innovative approaches with strong analgesic and anti-anxiety effect that are easy to use and cause less side effects. Further study and research need in these fields.

Introduction: Nowadays, heart failure (HF) is one of the most common and disabling diseases with high mortality and morbidity in every community. However, modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods use for cardiovascular disease management, but heart failure is still an important topic in researches to find effective, inexpensive, and available methods. Complementary and alternative interventions are one of the methods which used for increasing the quantity and quality of patient life by the new study designs. Persian medicine (PM) as one of the ancient medicine and evidence-based knowledge can be appropriate for this kind of research. Methods: This study is a narrative review in cardiology texts of Persian traditional medicine (including al-havi. canon of medicine) and compares it with the conventional medicine classification. Results: According to PM viewpoints, “heart weakness” is the most similar disease to HF based on definition and semiology. General weakness with changes in pulse rate, breathe pattern, body weight, appetite, neurological or cognitive function and physical power are common signs and symptoms between heart weakness and HF. In patient management, cardiac function improves, according to initial and acquired temperament by cardiotonic or aromatic herbs and nutraceutical products. Psychiatric rehabilitation is one of the most important treatment strategies, especially with aromatherapy or music listening and a suitable massage with appropriate oil. Conclusion: Recognition of PM views about semiology and management of heart failure (heart weakness) can help scientist to design future researches and clinical trials for accessing to more effective treatments, preventive methods and improving patient satisfaction.

Introduction: Hypercom perfuratum has medicinal properties in traditional medicine with antidepressant and anti-microbial effects. In this study, a new form of aqueous extract of Hypercomwas prepared as a micro emulsion form, and its antimicrobial properties was investigated in comparison with ordinary aqueous extract on clinical strains of gram-negative bacteria. Methods: Ten types of clinical strains were investigated in this work. Hypericum extract was prepared by water in boiling temperature and micro emulsion with the help of two types of emulsifiers. Antibacterial properties of the two materials were performed by determining the inhibition zone in a disk diffusion method and the measurement of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) by the microplate dilution and a ELISA reader device. Results: Salmonella typhi has the highest zone of inhibition around 42 mm at a concentration of 8 mg/ml for extract and 30 mm in 0.1mg/ml micro emulsion but Pseudomonas had no zone. The MIC with microplate for Salmonella had greatest effect on the amount of 0.01563 mg/ml for Shigella concentration of 0.00625 mg/ml respectively. MIC for E. coli and Proteus extract 0.5 mg/ml and the microemulsion 0.025 mg/ml for both bacteria. Conclusion: Comparison of Hypercom extract and its microemulsion form on gram negative bacteria confirmed that microemulsion in lower concentrations had the antibacterial effect equal to aqueous extract. The use of microemulsion of the extract was recommended in clinical study of herbal medicines.
