Abstract:

Due to the constant need for research to develop new and effective antiviral agents, medicinal plants can be a very good tool for the discovery and production of antiviral drugs. Extensive studies have been conducted in this field so far. Nurses, as one of the most important members of the health care team in COVID19 diseases, can play an important role in preventing the excessive and excessive consumption of medicinal plants prescribed by non-specialists. The importance of topics such as the interaction of active ingredients in medicinal plants with the routine treatments and even the precautions of their use with many underlying diseases, can be taught through nurses. On the other hand, by educating and using medicinal plants in the form of clinical trials and under the supervision of specialized physicians, it can be helpful to identify effective medicinal plants and new medicinal sources.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Emergency department nurses experience a high level of stress due to the nature of their occupation. In order to improve the quality of nursing care, the reduction of nurses’ occupational stress is crucial. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of psychological empowerment on occupational stress among emergency department nurses. Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on 80 emergency department nurses in Ayatollah Kashani and Hajar hospitals of Shahrekord, Iran. The participants were selected using convenience sampling and randomly allocated to intervention (n=40) and control (n=40) groups. For the intervention group, the psychological empowerment program was presented in eight educational, supportive, and counseling workshops. The control group received no intervention. The data were collected using the Osipow Occupational Stress Questionnaire before and one month after the interventions and analyzed by descriptive and analytic statistics in SPSS software (version 21). Results: Before the interventions, the two study groups had no statistically significant difference in the mean scores of occupational stress. After the interventions, the mean score of occupational stress in the intervention group significantly reduced and the mean score of occupational stress was significantly different between the two study groups (P<0. 05). Furthermore, the mean changes in occupational stress scores in the intervention group were significantly greater than those reported for the control group (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Psychological empowerment reduces occupational stress among emergency department nurses. The results of the present study can be beneficial for hospital managers in order to improve the quality of nursing care.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: There are different types of biases in clinical trial studies. Selective outcome reporting is one of these biases occurring when the publication of research findings is influenced by the nature and direction of the results. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare selective outcome reporting bias in clinical trials registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) website with articles published in the nursing and midwifery journals. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, all clinical trial studies published in the Iranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery from March 2018 to March 2019 that had met the inclusion criteria were selected using the Census sampling method. The data were collected using a researcher-made checklist that was used to check the status of the journals, compare the outcomes in the IRCT website with those reported in the Methods and Results sections of published articles, and assess the significant and non-significant primary and secondary outcomes. Results: The findings of the study revealed that out of 223 articles published in 33 Midwifery Nursing Journals, only half of the articles had IRCT code. Moreover, 63% of the primary outcome and 18% of the secondary outcome recorded in the IRCT were different from the primary and secondary outcomes reported in the Methodology section of the article, which led to the removal of 59% of primary outcomes recorded on the IRCT website. Conclusion: The results of the present study revealed that although many nursing and midwifery journals had made it mandatory to register clinical trials on the IRCT website, only half of the articles had IRCT code. In addition, more than half of the outcomes reported in articles undergo deletion, modification, or addition of new consequences, which lead to the publication of invalid study results.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Mindfulness-based interventions are one of the third generation or the third wave cognitive-behavioral therapies, which has its roots in Buddhism. In other words, these interventions are considered a kind of meditation and can reduce stress. The clinical self-efficacy of nursing students will enhance their ability to learn nursing concepts and skills. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of mindfulness-based education on the students’ clinical self-efficacy. Methods: This quasi-experimental study had a sample size of 46 cases who were randomly selected from nursing students of Boukan Nursing School and divided into two groups of control and intervention. The data were collected using a self-efficacy clinical questionnaire for the nursing students. The intervention was carried out based on the guidelines of Kabat-Zinn mindfulness sessions. Data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 20) through descriptive tests and t-test. Results: The study revealed that the mean± SD scores of the students’ selfefficacy after the intervention were 79. 92± 13. 61 and 64. 78± 16. 02 in the intervention and control groups, respectively, which shows a statistically significant difference between these two groups (P<0. 001). Moreover, the mean scores of the students’ self-efficacy in the intervention group increased from 66. 71± 15. 01 to 79. 92± 13. 61 (P<0. 001). Conclusion: The attendance of nursing students in mindfulness-based courses and workshops has a significant impact on increasing their clinical selfefficacy. Therefore, not only do these training courses advance the level of self-efficacy in students, but also they improve the provision of medical care provided to the patients.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Depression during pregnancy is a common disorder affecting numerous women; nonetheless, no study has been conducted to summarize the factors affecting this mental disorder. Due to this knowledge gap, preventive measures have not been performed for these women. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors affecting gestational depression. Methods: This systematic review study made a query for articles published in ProQuest, science direct, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Medline, SID, Iran doc, and Google Scholar in five years preceding 2019 using such keywords as depression, risk factor, pregnancy and mental health based on PRISMA steps. Results: Out of 211 retrieved articles, 6 high-quality ones were included in the present study. The prevalence of depression during pregnancy was obtained at 11. 8%-24. 94%. The most important factors affecting gestational depression included unwanted pregnancy, previous history of depression, and history of abortion. Conclusion: Pregnancy depression affects one in four women. Some factors, such as unwanted pregnancy, previous history of depression, history of miscarriage, high-risk pregnancy, history of stillbirth, history of preterm delivery, as well as such family problems as violence against women and marital problems, are some of the factors affecting pregnancy depression.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Although hip joint replacement is one of the most successful orthopedic surgeries and is referred to as the operation of the century, the rehabilitation period after this surgery is usually lengthy and can affect the physical and mental health of the patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of self-care training using the educational booklet on the physical and mental health of the patients undergoing hip joint replacement surgery. Methods: In this randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 patients were selected using convenience sampling method from those who had referred to two selected hospitals of Iran University of Medical Sciences during 2016 and were divided into experimental (n=30) and control (n=30) groups. Data were collected using demographic characteristics form and SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire. At the beginning of the study, the demographic characteristics forms were completed by the study participants. Afterward, the patients in the experimental group were given selfcare training using an educational booklet. The training was completed in 5 sessions, and each session lasted 30-45 minutes. The SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire was completed by the participants on the day of discharge and eight weeks later when they visited the clinic again. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 20) through descriptive statistics (i. e. frequency, frequency percentage, and mean± SD) and inferential statistics (i. e. Chi-square, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney tests). Results: In general, a significant increase was observed in the mean scores of physical and mental health in both groups two months after the discharge, compared to those obtained at the time of discharge (P<0. 05). However, the extent of differences in scores was different in the two groups. The changes in the physical and mental health scores during the discharge and two months later in the experimental group were estimated at 17. 33± 9. 78 and 27. 69± 12. 47, respectively. However, the changes in the physical and mental health scores during the discharge and two months later in the control group were obtained at 5. 29± 9. 45 and 5. 49± 14. 72. Comparison of mean scores of changes in both groups revealed that there was a significant increase in the mean scores of physical and mental health in the experimental group, compared to the controls (P<0. 001). Conclusion: Based on the results, the adoption of self-care training using the educational booklet promoted the physical and mental health of the patients who had undergone hip joint replacement surgery. Therefore, it is suggested that this training method should be used more frequently in the educational programs of patients who undergo hip replacement surgery. Moreover, future researches should examine the effectiveness of novel educational methods, such as education using social networks.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Many students experience high levels of stress during their studies, causing them a lot of psychological damage and leading to feelings of inefficiency and a negative self-critical attitude. In this regard, the current study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction group training on the self-critical attitude of female students with academic stress at Farhangian University of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, Iran. Methods: The present quasi-experimental study was carried out with a pretestposttest design and a control group. The statistical population of this study included all 350 female students of Farhangian University of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in the academic year 2018-2019. Among all the students, 150 students were selected by random sampling, and then out of them 60 students with higher academic stress scores than the average group were selected as the final sample and randomly divided into two groups (i. e., experimental group [n=30] and control group [n=30]). In both groups, the selfcritical questionnaire was completed as a pretest, and after the intervention, the posttest and two-month follow-up were performed again for both groups. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (e. g., mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (e. g., analysis of covariance) by SPSS software (version 23). Results: Based on the obtained results, mindfulness-based stress reduction group training had a significant effect on self-critical reduction (eta=7. 27; F=30. 6; P<0. 001). Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, mindfulness-based stress reduction training can be used in order to decrease studentsʼ self-criticism.
