Abstract: 

The objective of present study was to conduct a self-assessment of services' quality, receiving student feedback, and initiate corrective actions to step towards EFQM model. The RADAR Logic was used to conduct self-assessment. To deploy RADAR Logic a descriptive –cross sectional study conducted on total students (270) at bachelor degree in Kashan University of Medical Sciences in first semester in 91-92. A questionnaire according to current performance and student expectations were evaluated and scored from good to poor. Variance and frequency were employed to describe qualitative variables. Consolatory and supportive services, management services and educational quality indicate major existing gap between current performance and students expectations. Using EFQM self-assessment method would work as quality improvement tools in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Due to the unfamiliarity of quality management philosophy in HEIs, corrective actions should focus on infrastructure functions including resources, processes, policies, and people to pave the way. To achieve and continue quality improvement, establishing a quality management committee at Medical Universities seems to be essential.

Abstract: 

The internships are a major part of the training process in any courses. In comparison between medical fields and allied health with other academic fields, internships program is more important regarding others. Thus, this study was a survey on the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of internships program on Medical Records bachelor degree training courses in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. Two groups of students who had passed his internship in Medical Records Discontinuous Bachelor training courses, were studied in the summer and autumn in 2011. Data was collected using a questionnaire which validity and reliability had been confirmed. The result of the study showed that the major strengths of Internships Program included: the behavior of internships instructors with students, the corporation of health care centers administrators for carrying out the internship course, the precoordination between medical records educational department and hospitals, and holding orientation classes to familiarity students with the internships process. In addition, the major weaknesses of Internships Program included: the lack of adequate transportation facilities, not assess to actual knowledge and skills of trainees, and not focus on applied content in the field of medical records regarding the future job skill requirement. Regarding to the Changed name of the medical records course to health information technology, new students' educational needs has been raised. Therefore to improve the quality of students' internships, Management and Information Technology (Medical Records) Department should continue the previous positive trends in the internships program and planning to correct the weaknesses of the past.

Abstract: 

Various factors can affect people’s opinion about their career future. Considering that women, regardless of their level of health and reproductively, are in need of midwives and their services, hence the current study was conducted to determine the attitude of the midwifery students towards their professional future. This descriptive study was conducted on all midwifery students at Islamic Azad university of Rasht during the first semester of the academic year in 2012-13. The information was gathered through two-parts questionnaires, which collected both personal information and measurable data regarding their career attitudes. The aggregated data was then analyzed by SPSS 16 software using descriptive and analytical statistics. Moreover, the mean score of students' attitude toward their future career was 34.95±5.81 and the obtained scores were higher than the acceptable scores. Moreover, there were significant relationship between score of career attitude with economical situation, and students' age, but there was not significant relationship between career attitude and the other research variables. Based on the study' results, most of students had a positive view towards their future career. Regarding to the high number of midwifery graduates and fundamental changes in the job market, such a positive outlook can be further reinforced through balanced distribution of human resources, implementing plans to address educational problem, and establishing job counseling centers to support and orient students for their future career.

Abstract: 

The lecturer is the most important factor for success in achieving the educational goals. Hence, paying attention to effective teaching leads to achieving the educational goals and the improvement of learning process. The goal of this study was to prioritization and to determine the relationship between factors affecting the effective teaching by lecturer in graduate student’s perspective. In this analytical study, all Graduate students of Allied Medicine School in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (105 students) in the second semester in 2012-2013 were selected. Moreover, a valid and reliable questionnaire used for data collection consisted of nine factors influencing the effectiveness of teaching. Data was analyzed using graph theory and Matlab software. Factors of mastery of the subject, providing new and updated content, simply and fluently state, and clearly transfer the contents certainly influence and impact on the effectiveness of teaching. In addition, two factors including mastery of the subject and evaluation of students in each session, mid-term and end of term with coordinates of (1.14 and 1.14) and (1 and -1) were identified as first and last priority respectively. The results showed that the most important factor was mastery to training content. Therefore, considering the importance of improving the quality of education as well as in order to increase communication skills between lecturer and student, and acquaintance to teaching methods, it is also proposed the appropriate targeted workshops and training courses take place.

Abstract: 

The aim of this study was the examination of cognitive emotional regulation strategies as predictors of mental health and educational outcomes of students in Ahvaz Jundishapour University of Medical Sciences. In this study, 230 students were selected by random cluster sampling and also two questionnaires to examine the variables of this study were cognitive emotional regulation strategies (CERQ) and general health questionnaire (GHQ). In order to measure the academic performance of students, the average of scores that they already had passed was used. The multivariate analysis (logistic regression) showed that acceptance, belonged to compatible cognitive emotional regulation strategies and catastrophising belonged to incompatible cognitive emotional regulation strategies were significant predictors of psychological health. In addition, the multivariate regression showed that none of cognitive emotional regulation strategies were significant predictors of academic performance. The catastrophising strategy also played more roles in predicting the psychological health. Furthermore, it was revealed that males more than females used self-blame strategy and catastrophising. According to the results of this study, cognitive emotional regulation strategies would be useful for cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Abstract: 

Aggressive will affect all aspects of the adolescents' growth and health; their physical growth due to great stress disrupts reduce both their mental or cognitive growth, and learning and academic achievement. The present study aimed to examine the impact of self-awareness training on reducing aggression and promoting educational achievement motivation in third-grade students of Middle School. This research was based on a quasi-experimental framework and was conducted through implementing pre- and post-test. The research population included all third graders of Middle School during 2011-2012 in Tehran, Iran. A total number of 36 third graders with the highest level of aggression was randomly selected from a given school in District One of Tehran Municipality and were divided into control and experimental groups. Aggression Questionnaire (AGQ) and Inventory School Motivation (ISM) were employed to gather data. Moreover, the experimental group received treatment for two months in 8 sessions (each lasting for 45 minutes) whereas the control group received no treatment. Having finished treatment, both groups took post-test. One-way blocked analysis of variance was utilized to analyze the data. Therefore, results showed that there existed a statistically significant relationship between the self-awareness training and aggression reduction (F=134.202, P<0.05). In addition, self-awareness training and promotion of educational achievement motivation were significantly related (F=134.997, P<0.05). Regarding the research findings, it can be concluded that self-awareness would considerably reduce students’ aggression and promote their educational achievement motivation.

Abstract: 

Clinical education has a major role in the development of clinical skills. Nursing requires that the students learn how to become professional healthcare in the clinical environment. Despite the vital role of clinical training in improving the quality of students’ caring behaviors, however large differences exist in the perceptions of caring behaviors. The purpose of this study was to identify the viewpoints of nurses students regarding the priority of caring behaviors. In this descriptive study, all the nursing students during 7th and 8th semester in Tabriz nursing School of Medical Sciences in 2013 were chosen by census sampling, included 200 students (67% female, 33% mail) that were passing the ICU clinical teaching. Data were also collected by the Caring Assessment Questionnaire (Care-Q), developed by Larson. Caring behaviors consisted of 57 statement were ranked on a 5-point Likert-type scale and ordered in six subscales. After analyzing data by using SPSS software version 21.0, the results demonstrated that students' high ranking in the importance of caring, was about "Being Accessible", "Monitoring and Following through" and the low ranking was about "Trusting Relationships" and "Anticipates", respectively. Moreover, male students ranked "Monitoring and following through" (p<0.05) higher than females. Furthermore, the nursing students perceived highly physical aspects of caring compared to emotional caring. Therefore, the results revealed the necessity of students 'awareness of the other needs during caring of patients. It is worthy to note that educational training and informing students in the beginning of clinical placement would facilitate accepting the promotion of their motivation for learning caring behaviors.

Abstract: 

The continuous study during course period could have a significant role in half-life Course Information. This study aimed to investigate the effect of regular class exams on the final scores obtained of body fluids and renal physiology course in two medical and pharmacy groups. The teacher and the curriculum were quite similar to the selected population. This study was performed in the first semester of the academic year in 2012-2013. According to the survey, only pharmacy students were willing to participate in regular class exams. In addition to the final test, pharmacy students also took part in three tests while medical students only participated in the final test. The number of long answer essay-questions and short answer essay-questions in each class exam were identical (4 in each). Final test questions were also quite similar in both studied groups. Furthermore, the results showed that the total score of pharmacy students and their final score were significantly higher in comparison to medical students. In addition, the percentage of both exam acceptance and higher quality score in pharmacy students were higher than medical students. Thus, regular exams being held during course period could have a significant impact on final scores, quality scores, and percentage of acceptance in kidney physiology test.

Abstract: 

Nowadays, universities and higher education are considered as a means for economical, social, and cultural development of each country. This study aimed to determine the satisfaction of students of medical laboratory sciences from educational, research, and welfare services offered by paramedical faculty of Shahid Sadoughi University of medical sciences. This was a descriptive-analytical study included 150 samples from medical laboratory students by stratified- random sampling. Information required were collected by distributing a questionnaire with 60 questions. Then the data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. Therefore, the results showed that mean score of students' satisfaction from all services was 157.6 which mean score of educational, research, and welfare services were 91.4, 58.0, and 8.0 respectively. Results also revealed that 53.4%, 60.3% and 58.3% of students between age group under 20 years, 20-22 years, and over 22 years have high- satisfaction from all services, respectively (P=0.00). regarding to the satisfaction; educational and research services were high, welfare services was low, and total services were intermediate. Therefore, officials should improve all services specially welfare ones to the students.

Abstract: 

Review and assessment of each department had its own advantages; the evolution of research and educational fields, certainly in the detection of defects and weaknesses of their potential, are beneficial and help it to full maturity. The purpose of this study was internal evaluated of Immunology department, Faculty of Medicine and also it was a descriptive study done in 2010-2011 at at department of Immunology of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. Areas evaluated in this study included: head of the department, faculty members, training field, human resources, training and research equipments, teaching and research areas, and graduate students of the group. Questionnaire was prepared and drafted by some faculty members and Medical Education Development and Management center. In coordination with the statement based on the findings of Gorman, a rating scale was classified out of agreement to the very strong range of 1 to 5 points. Head of the Department (acquired by averaging 4.16), faculty members (4.2), the field of education (4.1), according to Gorman classified powerful stars, in the field of human resources (2.75) Rated rewarding, educational and research facilities in the area (3.8) stars as well, in the field of research and educational space and graduate students (2.6) has a satisfactory rating, Department with acquired by averaging 3.85 stars has been good. According to Gorman classification, department of Immunology of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences was evaluated and ranked in all mentioned areas (acquired by averaging 3.64) therefore above the satisfactory level.

Abstract: 

Emotions in one and others. The present study was designed to investigate the relationship between educational status and emotional intelligence among dentistry students of Babol University of Medical Sciences. This descriptive-analytical study was performed including 93 dentistry students in fourth, fifth, and sixth year. Bar-On questionnaire was used to evaluate emotional intelligence and then students' score average was used as an index for educational status. Data was statistically analyzed with SPSS 18 software and T-test. The mean score of emotional intelligence was 353.49. Therefore, there was no significant difference between EI subscales in different entries and mean score in each entry. Total score of EI in females was significantly higher than males (P=0.01). Hence, there was no significant difference in educational status of students in native students and non-natives. Moreover, there was no relationship between emotional intelligence and educational status.
