The Ministry of Health and Medical Education was established in 1985 after integration of previous ministry of health and medical universities and the new ministry was assigned for training of health manpower. Consequently, the number of universities and faculty members were gradually increased.Because training of qualified human resources) including medical students demands qualified teachers, Educational Development Center (EDC) was established in order to promote the quality of education in the above mentioned ministry in 1988. One of the main objectives of EDC in the ministry was to establish branches of EDCs in the universities of medical sciences.Main functions of EDCs are as following 1) Curriculum development 2) Teacher training 3) Continuing medical education 4) Evaluation 5) Research in education. Educational Development centers assist in strengthening curriculum planning skills, improving the quality of teaching- learning materials, and evaluating students learning and the effectiveness of training. EDCs may also be involved in planning, implementing. and evaluation of faculty development, and continuing .education programs. Because research is an important task of most education specialists, it has a central position in an EDC.

Health is defined as the attainment of complete physical) mental and social wellbeing and should not be refered merely as the absence of diseases. The main goal of health care is to alleviate physical and mental distress of the patients and to promote their- health to enable them to enjoy a healthy, productive and quality life. In our country, health care delivery system has achieved outstanding success but regarding the quality of life we are technically, Skill wise and in assessment in a very early stages.This article is trying to define quality of life and to elaborate on its assessment tools and application.I hope study of this article opens an entrance to this very important subject.

Students absenteeism from basic science regular classes remains a problem throughout the academic year. Absenteeism is an indication of decreased motivation of students. In the basic science courses, the faculty classes are considered as the best place to teach and transfer medical knowledge and experience to students. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify factors effecting absenteeism of medical students.In this descriptive cross-section study 10 percent of medical students participating in the basic sciences courses during the second term of 1993-94 took part. A questionnaire was used to collect data during the final exam and 272 students completed the questionnaires. Spsspc was employed to analyze the data.The results of the study showed that "mostery of the teacher" seemed to be the most important factor for students to attend and "the inappropriate method of teaching" was the most important factor for students to avid attending the classes.  

The health care forms recording the health cares of mothers and children at the health houses are valuable records. If they are completely filled, they can be used for epidemiologic purposes. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of these forms.400 family files containing 5 forms related to the care of mothers and 5 forms related to the care of children were selected through two -stage random sampling in 20 health houses in Isfahan. Expected and observed filling frequency was calculated for every form. Descriptive and analytic statistics was performed on the data.The results showed that vaccination forms- were the most complete forms (99 percent) and the family planning forms were the least complete forms(60 percent).Confidence interval (99%) for the proportion of the records was 73±5 percent. The proportion of filling the records was different between the health houses (87.9 to 48.3). This proportion in mothers health cares and children health cares forms were 72 and 81.6 percent, respectively. The results of this study showed that the health care forms in Isfahan are not completely filled by health care staff and closer attention is required to improve the condition.

Higher education centers employ certain criterion to evaluate job performance of their instructors and in this way identify their outstanding instructors in order to assign them accordingly to teaching position to improve the quality of education in their institution. Considering the significance of such criterion for evaluating the instructors, the contents of this criterion becomes an important subject that needs to be identified. The purpose of this study was to identify the attributes of a good instructor from the instructors and students prospect. This descriptive - analytic study was conducted at Semnan University of Medical Sciences and it included four domains of "personal characteristic", "knowledge - seeking", "teaching method" and "ability in communication and counsultation". 64 instructors and 185 students participated in the study.A questionnaire was employed to collect data and Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze the "data. The results showed that both the instructors and students gave the highest priority to the domain of "personal characteristics" followed by the domains of "knowledge seeking", "teaching method" and II ability in communication and consultation", respectively. There was a significant difference between the prospect of students and instructors concerning personal characteristics of the instructor.The researcher concluded that similar prospect concerning the criterion about a good instructor exist between the instructors and the students and these criterion should be employed as a mean of improving the teaching and learning process in this university.
