Abstract

Students absenteeism from basic science regular classes remains a problem throughout the academic year. Absenteeism is an indication of decreased motivation of STUDENTs. In the BASIC SCIENCE COURSES, the faculty classes are considered as the best place to teach and transfer medical knowledge and experience to STUDENTs. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify factors effecting absenteeism of medical STUDENTs.In this descriptive cross-section study 10 percent of medical STUDENTs participating in the basic sciences courses during the second term of 1993-94 took part. A questionnaire was used to collect data during the final exam and 272 STUDENTs completed the questionnaires. Spsspc was employed to analyze the data.The results of the study showed that "mostery of the teacher" seemed to be the most important factor for STUDENTs to attend and "the inappropriate method of teaching" was the most important factor for STUDENTs to avid attending the classes.
