With the attention to increasing diagnosis rate of nephritic syndrome and different reports of prevalence of infection in these patients and its complications and also to study the factors related to infection, this study was done on 100 children in the Ali - asghar hospital from 1374 to 1376. This cross - sectional study was done on children with Ns. The prevalence of infection was studied. Then between two groups with infection and without infection, the importance of age at the presentation time sex the levels of Bun, creatinin, total blood protein, serum albumin, cholesterol, triglycerid, Esr, wbc, Hb, the amount of 24 hours and the results of kidney biopsy was studied. This study was done in children from 50 days to 14 years. 39% of them were girls. The rate of infection was 39%. Pneumonia was the most common infection in the group with infection. Cholesterol was 373± 146 g/dl and in the infectious group, it was 456±171. Triglycerid was 335±195 mg/dl and 436±201 mg/dl, serum albumin was 0.85±2/55 and 2/61± 0/61 g/dl respectively. The rate of high echogenicity of kidney was significantly higher in the infectious group (P<0.0082). Other factors showed no significant difference between two groups. There was significantly lower serum albumin, higher cholesterol and triglycerid and high echogenicity in the infectious group. So we can conclude these factors are important risk factors as predisposing to infection in patients with NS.
