Abstract

Background: HYPERTENSION is one of the most important public health problems in the world today. Blood pressure is as a result of several factors, such as OBESITY. Given the prevalence of OBESITY in Iran and rising blood pressure this study is to determine the rate of prevalence of HYPERTENSION attributable to OBESITY in WESTERN IRAN in 2009.Methods: In this study, national statistics relating to the non-communicable disease care system in 2009 was used, and the effect size of the risk factors was obtained from lipid and glucose studies. After standardization of population-based prevalence data derived from the Census of 2011 the population attributable risk for Western provinces was calculated in Excel and ArcGIS software.Results: In this study, the maximum amount of attributable fraction was in Kermanshah province for males 19.9 percent and females 21.3 percent, and the lowest for males was in Ilam as 10.3 percent and for females in Kurdistan as11.5 percent.Conclusion: Recognizing the dangers of the prevalence and impact of blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases, and the high incidence of OBESITY and blood pressure in large provinces in the Western of Iran, it is necessary to perform preventive programs to avoid outbreak of the disease in these provinces.
