EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF VIRTUAL EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC FROM STUDENTS' VIEWPOINT IN URMIA UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Abstract

 Background & Aims: With quickly spread of the Covid-19 Pandemic across the world and the necessity of social distancing, the use of Virtual Education in universities of medical sciences has grown more and more. Considering that the quality of Virtual Education provided in this era plays an important role in the learning process of the students, this research was conducted with the aim of evaluating the quality of Virtual Education during the Covid-19 Pandemic from the students' viewpoint in Urmia University of Medical Sciences. Materials & Methods: This study was a descriptive-cross-sectional one that was conducted in 2021. The research population included 370 students of Urmia University of Medical Sciences, who were selected by stratified-proportional sampling method. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire, that its validity and reliability were obtained. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 16 software. Results: More than 62% of the students participating in the study reported their computer skills at an average level,the amount of students using offline training (42%) was more than online training (29%). The average points obtained in the 6 dimensions of evaluating the quality of Virtual Education from the students' viewpoint were: learning management system (4. 32), evaluation (4. 14), support services (4. 07), interaction between students and teachers (3. 47), provided electronic content (3. 32), and online training (3. 63). Conclusion: The results of this research show that the quality of electronic content provided, online education, and interaction between professors and students in Virtual Education provided at Urmia University of Medical Sciences were at medium and low levels. Therefore, it seems necessary that university professors pay attention to students' learning needs in preparing electronic content and produce this content in multimedia form. It is also necessary for professors to hold more online meetings by creating the necessary executive infrastructures and increase the level of their interaction with students by establishing face-to-face communication and using the discussion forum of the learning management system.
