Abstract

Introduction: The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of Compassion-based therapy and attachment-based compassion therapy on meta-worry and eating patterns in diabetics. Materials and Methods: The research method was a full-experimental control group type with pre-test, post-test and three-month follow-up. The statistical population of this study included all patients with diabetes who referred to Alborz diabetes Association (Ferdis diabetes Subspecialty Clinic) and had an active file in Fardis Karaj diabetes Association in 2017. 44 qualified people were selected based on the entry and exit criteria and by available sampling method and were replaced in two experimental and one control groups. The data collection tool was Wells' anxiety questionnaire (1994) and Dutch eating habit questionnaire (Van Strein et al., 1986). Both the experimental group and the control group were pre-tested using research tools. Then, the intervention of Compassion-based therapy and attachment therapy based on compassion therapy were each implemented during eight sessions for their own experimental groups. At the end of the interventions, both the experimental group and the control group were subjected to a post-test using the research tool. The data were analyzed using the mixed analysis of variance test. Results: The findings showed that the therapy based on compassion and attachment based on compassion therapy is effective on meta-worry and eating pattern in diabetic people (p<0. 01). Conclusion: It is suggested that in order to better adapt the patients to their social conditions and daily life, these two treatments should be used as a group both on the patients with diabetes and on their families.
