Abstract

Many researchers are of the opinion that the construction of the general idea of the text is the essence of the writing understanding. However, in spite of the importance of this skill, little research has been conducted about methods of constructing the general idea of the text within the second language learning context. Using an introspective method, the writer identifies the methods of constructing the general idea of the text and explores them within the framework of Stanovich's interactive-compensatory theory.
