Abstract

Productive organizations are characterized by their equipments, machinery, and technical skills of the employees. Aligning and coordinating these characteristics has a significant effect on the organizational productivity and flexibility. Using optimized organizational designs and modern equipments will lead to quick environmental change only in the case of the presence of motivated, large-minded, creative, and skillful employees.Employees' motivation plays a key role in optimized use of equipments and machinery. Production management experts have focused on the relationship between production process effectiveness and machinery layout in a factory; but, they more focused on the technical aspect of production which is used to invent combined layouts like cell technology and/or flexible manufacturing system (FMS). However, measuring the amount of motivation hided in various layouts is somewhat obsolete. This paper tries to measure and compare the motivation of employees in two different designs of machinery layout - designing based on the products and designing based on the fixed position.
