Abstract

The exegesis attributed to QumĪ is one of Imami commentaries compiled in 4 th century A. H. and classified as traditional. Nevertheless considering the commentary proper, the exegete in numerous cases has relied on his own independent decision in order to comperhend the meaning of the verses/ i. e/ he has interpreted the verses depending on non-traditional sources. In this article, at first we study QumĪ's exegesis and its status and next we examine different stimuli for his decision making and finally in the last part of the article we consider various factors influentied on the editor's judgements. This research shows that in all commentaries, even those known as traditional, we can notice the exegete's independent decision making.
