Abstract

The new millennium progressively witnessed the imposition of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological theory adapted to translation studies. If the notions of field, habitus, and illusio brought renewal to the discipline, the translator’s habitus, however, remains, to this day, fairly unknown. We will modestly try to contribute to a better understanding of this habitus by studying a leading figure of the MID XIXTH CENTURY FRENCH CULTURE, ÉMILE DAURAND FORGUES. In order to present how a translator’s destiny may have been created during this period of intense cultural activity, the notion of habitus will be defined, then the primary habitus and the translator’s habitus of Forgues will be examined. French: ÉMILE DAURAND FORGUES, traducteur et critique des littératures anglaise et anglo-américaine en France au XIXe siècle Le nouveau millénaire a vu progressivement s’imposer la théorie sociologique de Pierre Bourdieu adaptée à la traductologie. Si les notions de champs, d’habitus et d’illusio ont insufflé un souffle de renouveau à cette discipline; par contre, l’habitus de traducteur demeure, malheureusement encore aujourd’hui, très méconnu. Nous tenterons, modestement, de contribuer à une meilleure connaissance de cet habitus en nous intéressant à l’une des figures phare de la CULTURE FRANÇAISE DU MILIEU DU XIXE SIÈCLE, ÉMILE DAURAND FORGUES. Afin de tenter d’établir de quelle façon un destin de traducteur pouvait se former à cette époque d’intense activité culturelle, la notion d’habitus sera définie, puis l’habitus primaire et l’habitus de traducteur de Forgues seront examines.
