Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of maternal and parental INVOLVEMENT, AUTONOMY SUPPORT, and WARMTH on adolescents` and SELF-DETERMINED MOTIVATION and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. For this reason 337 high school students were selected through multi-stage random sampling and completed Academic Motivation Scale (Vallerand et al, 1989), and Perception of Parents Scale (Robbins, 1994).The data from path analysis indicated that maternal INVOLVEMENT, and parental AUTONOMY SUPPORT and maternal, paternal and parental WARMTH via mediating the SELF-DETERMINED MOTIVATION had indirect effects on ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. The results confirmed the mediating role of SELF-DETERMINED MOTIVATION between parenting styles and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.
