Abstract

The present article intends to study the anthropological foundations of some post-modernist philosophers and their implications for setting EDUCATIONAL GOALS. To this end, first the anthropological assumptions of some of the philosophers representative of this school including Martin Heidegger, Friedrich Neitzsche, Michel Foucault, Richard Rorty and Jean-Francois Lyotard on human nature, human responsibility, non-spiritual human, discursive human, social and political human are examined and then the point is made that, for most of the above philosophers, UBERMENSCH is the end of education. This goal is non-spiritual and lacks a spiritual approach to man and his life goals. In addition, this goal is not achievable in the framework of an educational system as neither a curriculum developer nor a teacher can move beyond the confines of the discourse of his time and place and so the mentioned goal can only be achieved as a result of someone’s self-generated efforts. The lack of due attention to the spiritual life, the contradiction between goals and means of education, ambiguity and relativism in the EDUCATIONAL GOALS and objectives and the rejection of the other as the navigator of the education procedure are among the most important criticisms raised against the educational implications of the post-modern anthropological theory.
