ALIGNMENT BETWEEN BUSINESS STRATEGIES AND INFORMATION SYSTEM STRATEGIES IN THE IRANIAN EXCELLENT ORGANIZATIONS

Abstract

 Context and objective: In the modern perturbed business, the success of organizations is dependent to orientation of all organization departments in line with its strategic path. In such an environment that the most of organizations’ investments are deposited on the information technology and information systems, the organizations in order to achieve their strategic goals have no option but use of information technology as a strategic resource and so the concept of information technology and business strategies ALIGNMENT (strategic ALIGNMENT) are signified.The strategic ALIGNMENT refers to applying the information technology timely and appropriately and in balance with business strategies, goals and requirements. The studies applied on strategic ALIGNMENT demonstrate the positive and effective relationship between competitive strategies, information technology and organizational performance. The managers who succeed to establish business and information technology businesses ALIGNMENT in their organizations emphasize on establishment of integration for organizations survival and success as a necessary factor. This paper investigates the effect of ALIGNMENT on business performance in accordance with Miles & Snow classification (organizations adopting defensive strategy, organizations adopting analytical strategy and organizations adopting predicting strategy).Methodology: The procedure of the extant paper is descriptive-survey and is applied with respect to the objective.Findings: ALIGNMENT or synergy between business strategies and information system strategies clearly is in connection with the effectiveness and performance of organizations. The organizations that don’t focus on long-term activities, in the event of making great investments in information systems designed for long-term predictions, have not used their resources appropriately.Conclusion: In this study, it is concluded that the organizations that better ALIGNMENT and more synergy exists between its business strategies and information system strategies.
