Abstract

Background: Breast Cancer is a great health problem which has been growing in number now-a-day Breast self exam (BSE) is an important method for early detection so it can decease the mortality rate of this cancer. The present study a valuated KNOWLEDGE ATTITUDE and PERFORMANCE (KAP) of female employee of Gorgan city about BSE. Material and Methods: In this descriptive and analytical study 330 women were selected among nursing, teacher and official employee via random sampling method. Demographic data sheet and BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE and PERFORMANCE questionnaire were used as date gathering instruments. Statistical analysis was done by chi-square and one way ANOVA in SPSS 16 software environment.Results: Participants' age mean and standard deviation were 33.9±0.39 in range of 22-54 years. 91.8% of subjects were Domestic and 98.2% had academic education. Nurses with 67.7% and 78.6% respectively had highest KNOWLEDGE and PERFORMANCE and 68.9% teachers had the best ATTITUDE. There were not statistically significant relation between KAP with ethnicity and educations but there were significant relation between KAP with job type and marital status. There was significant difference between age group in KNOWLEDGE and PERFORMANCE but ATTITUDE score had not significant difference.Conclusion: This study indicates that KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE and PERFORMANCE to BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION is in moderate level and is needed to further educational programs.
