Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the VALIDITY and RELIABILITY of PRO-SOCIAL TENDENCIES scale among students at the university of Isfahan. The population in this study compised whole undergraduate students of the university of Isfahan in the educational year 1387-88. By using a simple randomized sampling commensurate with Cohen & others (2000) formula, some 300 subjects were selected. Scales used concurrently were: Carlo et al's PRO-SOCIAL TENDENCIES (with 25 items), Rushton et al's GLOBAL PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR (with 20 items), Davis' EMPATHIC CONCERN (with 7 items), Nickell et al' s altruistic Values (with 4 items) and Steele et al's Social responsibility motivation (with 4 items). All of the above scales were administered concurrently for studying the VALIDITY and RELIABILITY of PRO-SOCIAL TENDENCIES. Data was analyzed and studied using coronbach's Alpha, Spearman-Brown and Guttman's coefficients, factor analysis (with principal component and varimax rotation) and concurrent VALIDITY (the correlation between scales). Results showed that the coronbach's Alpha for PRO-SOCIAL TENDENCIES, GLOBAL PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, EMPATHIC CONCERN, ALTRUISTIC VALUES AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY MOTIVATION were 0.861, 0.845, 0.600, 0.500 and 0.782 respectively. The result of factor analysis showed five factors for PRO-SOCIAL TENDENCIES: anonymouse, public- altruistic, emotional, dire and compliant pro-social behaviors.
