Abstract

The ANIMA, in JUNG’s analytical psychology, is the unconscious or true inner self of the male individual. In the unconscious of the male, it finds expression as a feminine inner personality resulting from his interactions with woman for thousands of years. This ARCHETYPE has been represented both positively and negatively in literature. The present study aims at analyzing the positive representations such as “the BELOVED”, “the INSPIRER”, “the AFFECTION TOWARD NATURE” as displayed in Iran’s (Persian) myths and culture and indicating that at least one of the representations in the Iranian male unconscious takes its origins from a PROTOTYPE which is possibly an ancient Iranian goddess.
