Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of training based on CHOICE THEORY and RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY on ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION and DIFFICULTY OF EMOTIONAL REGULATION. The research design was experimental, with two experimental and one control groups in a pre-test, post-test, and two-month follow-up. The population of the study consisted of FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS in first grades in Bushehr in the academic year of 2016-2017. In order to implement the research, 60 students were selected through random selection. After performing the pre-test with McInerney the ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION Questionnaire and Gertz-Roemer's Emotional Adjustment Difficulty Questionnaire, 20 students in the intervention group were trained in the theory of RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY, and 20 subjects were randomly selected to be trained in CHOICE THEORY and 20 others were the control group without any intervention. Each of the experimental groups were subjected to an intervention program for 10 sessions (2 sessions per week). The results of analysis of covariance showed that the two experimental groups assigned to the reality therapy and RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY programs in comparison to the control group significantly showed increased the ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION and reduced DIFFICULTY OF EMOTIONAL REGULATION. The experimental group receiving the CHOICE THEORY program showed more increase in the ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION. On the other hand, the experimental group receiving the RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY showed more decrease in DIFFICULTY OF EMOTIONAL REGULATION.
