Title

A METHOD FOR SOLVING SCHOOL TIMETABLING PROBLEM BY DECOMPOSITION APPROACH IN MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING

Abstract

 One of the main challenges of planning for school administrators and even teachers at the beginning of the academic year is school timetabling problem. In this paper, this problem is modeled using MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING. Due to the high number of 0 and 1variables, the problem is an NP-complete problem and a general model is not very practical. Decomposing the problem to three phases (decomposition) is a good solution to overcome difficulty of problem. In the first phases it is determined that each teacher will come to school in which day. And in the second phase it is determined that each teacher in the determined day will teach which course. And In the third phase it will be determined that each teacher in each day will teach each course in which hour.
