Abstract

Objectives: Considering the high prevalence of THALASSEMIA in Mazandaran province, this study evaluated the relationship between DEPRESSION and major THALASSEMIA. Method: An anterograde cohort study was conducted on all thalassemic patients (86 girls and 79 boys) between the ages of 9 and 16 years old referred to Booali Sina THALASSEMIA Clinic. They were assessed by Children DEPRESSION Scale (CDS). Findings: Level of DEPRESSION was higher in thalassemic patients (14%) than in the control group (5.5%), even though the average score of DEPRESSION in females of control group was higher than the thalassemic females. Results: The prevalence of DEPRESSION is remarkable in thalassemic patients.
