  165-188

Abstract

The purpose of this causal-comparative survey was to investigate and compare the performance of department heads' in Shiraz IAU with regard to three threefold management skills (technical, human, and perceptual). The study concerned all part-time and full-time instructors (n=420) of Shiraz IAU The study sample included 225 instructors selected through stratified sampling. A researcher-developed questionnaire assessing the three management skills was administered in 1390. Its face validity was approved and its reliability was assessed through Cronbach's alpha. Both descriptive (frequency, frequency percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (ANOV A and post hoc Tukey test) were used for data analysis by SPSS software. The results revealed that there was a significant difference between department heads' performance in Shiraz IAU with regard to the three management skills (technical, human and perceptual). Generally, the highest and lowest TECHNICAL SKILLs were related to the agriculture faculty and humanities faculty respectively. In addition, the highest and lowest humanity skills were scored by the humanities faculty and technical-engineering faculty respectively. Finally, the basic sciences faculty and agriculture faculty respectively possessed the highest and lowest PERCEPTUAL SKILLs.
