Title

SATIRICAL DEVICES IN “WORDS THAT MAKE SENSE” BY KIOOMARS SABERI (GOL AGHA)

Pages

  5-32

Abstract

Stylists analyze the linguistic, literary and semantic aspects of literary works. To examine satire, in addition to such rhetorical devices, one should also explore those devices that create laughter. Many contemporary scholars of satire believe that Saberi possesses his own unique style, best exemplified in his “WORDS THAT MAKE SENSE” COLUMN in the Ettela-aat newspaper. In the present article we have studied Saberi’s innovative satirical devices in “WORDS THAT MAKE SENSE” and conclude that the appeal in Saberi’s satire lies in three major characteristics: variety, innovation and the combination of satirical devices.
