Abstract

Background and Aims: Diabetes has been called family disease because infected children with diabetes will face family system with enormous pressures and STRESS. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of COPING SKILLS on DEPRESSION, ANXIETY and STRESS in mothers of adolescents with TYPE I DIABETES.Methods: This semi- experimental pretest- posttest design was conducted on mothers of diabetic adolescents referred to Tehran Diabetes Association.40 mothers were selected using random sampling method and were randomly assigned in experimental and control groups. Independent variables included 8 session COPING SKILLS training which based on cognitive behavioral approach. The tool used in this research was DEPRESSION, ANXIETY and STRESS scale (DASS). The data was analyzed by analysis of covariance using software Spss 20.Results& Conclusion: The results showed that there’s a significant differences at post test scores between experimental and control groups in total score of DEPRESSION, ANXIETY and STRESS. (P<0.001, F=63.25) According to results, these skills particularly recommended to reduce the severity of clinical signs specially STRESS in mothers of diabetic adolescents.
