Abstract

This research sought to develop, validate and normalize a scale for assessing 6-12 year olds childhood attachment. The sample group included 500 1-5th grade primary students of Karaj, selected through multi-step cluster method, and they were tested. For developing the scale these steps were followed: 1. reviewing the literature and determining anxiety and avoidance as components of attachment construct; 2. Providing a collection of sentences representing these components; 3. Pilot administration and elimination of less valid sentences; 4. Providing a scale of 28 sentences in Harter’s style. 5. Final administration and determining statistical features of the scale. Content validity was verified by two experts in the field. Chrobach’s alpha was estimated to be 0.82 for anxiety variable and 0.90 for avoidance variable. Post test results indicated correlation between two administrations significant at 0.001 level; and the average of variables differed in no levels. Concurrent validity of the scale was based on correlation coefficients of a researcher made scale administered for testees results of which verified the concurrent validity. Then, the normative characteristics of the scale were developed. Results indicated that the “Middle Childhood ATTACHMENT SCALE” had desired reliability and validity.
