Abstract

 This research sought to investigate the impact of COPING SKILLS instruction program on ANXIETY level of female high school students. For this purpose, 60 students were selected from among the first year high-school female students of Karaj using multistage clustering sampling method. After controlling of intelligence and economic status variables, 20 subjects were eliminated and the remaining ones were assigned into two 20-subject control and experimental groups. During the first session, Beck ANXIETY Inventory (BAI) was administered on both groups as a pretest. Then, the COPING SKILLS program (Lewinshon and Gotlib, 1995) was instructed to the experimental group for 14 sessions. After the treatment, BAI was administered on both groups as a post-test. The data were analyzed through the covariance and paired-samples t-test procedures. The results indicated that COPING SKILLS instruction was significantly effective to reduce the overall ANXIETY factor and its components – mental and physical ANXIETY-in the experimental group students.
