Abstract

 Cynara scolymus (artichoke) belong to family of Asteracea (Compositae). These plants for antinicobial properties are considerable in medical researches. In this researches ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT of ethanolic, methanolic, acetonic and aqueous EXTRACTs obtained from leaf, stem, flower and edible parts of Cynara scolymus on some of microorganisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, E.coli and Candida albicans were investigated.The evaluation diameter of the inhibitory zone around discs and sinks were used for assessment. The results showed that ethanolic and methanolic EXTRACTs of parts had inhibitory effect on the studied microorganisms. Also ethanolic EXTRACTs have strongest ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT relative to metanolic EXTRACTs. Highest inhibitory effect of ethanolic EXTRACTs was relative to leaf. Also highest effect of exctracts of stem, flower and edible parts was on staphylococcus aureus and lowest was on Bacillus cereus. The highest antifungal effect was relative to ethanolic EXTRACTs of studied parts.
