THE STUDY OF ACCOUNTABILITY RATE OF MEDICAL RECORDS IN REFERRAL CASES TO FORENSIC MEDICINE IN ZABOL

Abstract

 Introduction: Forensics is one of the major areas using MEDICAL RECORDs. Annually, thousands of people are referred to FORENSIC MEDICINE organization to receive clinical records relating to assaults, accidents, conflicts, medical malpractices, physical examination of living body and cadaver. This study attempted to investigate the EFFECTIVENESS of the MEDICAL RECORDs used in the Department of FORENSIC MEDICINE of Zabol.Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in 2011. There were 500 MEDICAL RECORDs examined. The data, retrieved from the MEDICAL RECORDs an archived in the Department of FORENSIC MEDICINE, and was collected by a researcher-developed checklist. The results were consequently analyzed by SPSS18 using descriptive statistics.Results: The results showed that 71.2 % of the cases pertained to accidents. As for the ineffectively of the clinical records, 415 cases (83%) and 441 cases (88.2%) related to inaccuracy of data collection and incomplete data and 149 cases (29.8%) were because of lack of proper signature and seal.Conclusion: According to this study, the rate of the answering MEDICAL RECORDs reviewed was not desirable and despite the specific significance of documentation of the legal records, data recordings are defected. This deficiency was due to different reasons, which would have bad consequences for patients and medical staffs. Thus, documentary processes have to be more emphasized by physicians and others.
