Abstract

Background and Aim: Repeated hospitalization of children can pave the way for their mothers’ stress and ANXIETY. Since religious beliefs and self-concept are predictors of ANXIETY, this study aims to investigate the relationship between ANXIETY and TRUST IN GOD in mothers of bedridden children in PICU section of Valiasr hospital of Birjand in 2012.Materials and Methods: This correlational, descriptive-analytic study included 158 mothers of bedridden children in PICU section of Valiasr hospital who met inclusion criteria. They were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected in face-to-face manner using three questionnaires including ANXIETY questionnaire of Cattle, SELF-EFFICACY questionnaire of Shwarzer, and the 24-item trust-in-God questionnaire of Ghobary. Analysis was made in SPSS (version 15) using Independent T test, ANOVA, Range Tukey, and Pearson correlation at 0.05.Results: Results shows that there was a nagative correlation between ANXIETY and TRUST IN GOD (P<0.001). Also, there was a significantly negative relationship between SELF-EFFICACY and TRUST IN GOD (P<0.01). However, there was no significant relationship between ANXIETY and SELF-EFFICACY.Conclusion: TRUST IN GOD can reduce daily ANXIETY. Therefore, increased religious beliefs can be p a proper indication for relieved ANXIETY in mothers with hospitalized children.
