Pages

  65-79

Abstract

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an invisible, scattered and impairing force that causes agitation, turbulence, and imperfection of society with family life and individual relations. AIDS prevalence is increasing in different societies and young people are exposed to the danger of being afflicted by AIDS, because of information lacking in this field.  This study was performed on female students of Tabriz Islamic Azad University to determine and compare the effects of some teaching methods about AIDS on the KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDE of them. This is a semi experimental before and after study. The sampling method was stratified random by which 100 female students were selected from nursing and midwifery courses. Data was collected by a questionnaire in two steps. Training plans were taught in 3 methods: questioning and discussion, educational handbook, and group instruction. Then after one month the subjects completed the questionnaire as post test. The data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 15), descriptive and inferential statistics such as independent T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. Students' awareness increased noticeably after educating about this disease and according to T-test results, there were significant differences between KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDE after and before education (p<0.05). Also, independent T test showed no significant differences in the effect level of three educational methods on the KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDE of the subjects about AIDS. This study indicated that health educational programs can lead to increase health KNOWLEDGE and improve ATTITUDE regarding AIDS among students. According to the results of this study, effective and regular health educational programs are necessary in order to promote the level of KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDE of students. Essential educations should be provided for the students in all universities.
