Title

PREDICTION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING BASED ON THE ATTACHMENT STYLES AND SELF-COMPASSION IN MOTHERS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN URMIA

Pages

  73-94

Abstract

The study predicted PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL- BEING of mothers based on their ATTACHMENT STYLES and self- compassion. This research was a descriptive- correlational study. The sample consisted of 600 mothers of elementary school students in Urmia that were selected by multi-stage random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires about adult attachment, self - compassion, and PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL- BEING. The collected data were analyzed with Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Result of the study indicated that psychological well - being had significant positive relationship with secure attachment style and self- compassion. However, it had a negative significant relationship with insecure attachment. The results of multiple regression analysis revealed that PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL- BEING of mothers can be predicted from their self - compassion and ATTACHMENT STYLES. Predictor variables together explained 32% of the changes in psychological well - being (P<0.001). The results of the prediction shows that when the mothers have higher secure attachment style and self- compassion and also lower anxious attachment style, the probability of their psychological well-being would be higher.
