Abstract

Research has been reported different results about benefits of marriage on Mental health and well-being. The aim of this study was to compare the Mental health and Self-esteem of Married women and single girls in Shiraz. 390 participants (195 Married women and 195Single women) were selected to participate from the available population. They completed the Socio-Demographic Characteristics Form, SCL90, and the short-form Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory (30-item), and Ryff’ s Psychological Well-being Scales. To analyze the data, MANOVA and independent t-test were used. The results indicated that there was a significant difference between the Mental health and Self-esteem of Married women and Single women. The Mental health and Psychological Well-being of Married women was lower than Single women, but they enjoyed more Self-esteem. According to the results of this study, marriage has effects on Mental health and Psychological Well-being of Married women and enhances their Self-esteem.
