Abstract

In present century, tourism industry is recognized as one of the most prosperous industries and a driving force for global economic development. This emerging industry has been able to impact on many other industries to attract the other related industries. Sports are also considered as one of the major and important industries in the present world. The combination of sports and tourism has produced one of the most amazing modern service industries called “sports tourism”. In recent decades, this branch of tourism has had plenty of growth; as a result many countries have focused on study, program planning and marketing, in this area and have been able to develop tourism in their own countries as well as benefiting from it financially. ISFAHAN with numerous natural resources and attractions is also one the most suitable cities in the development of SPORT TOURISM. But unfortunately lack of sufficient knowledge, management and finally systematic and clear strategies has caused the area to be neglected and as a result unique opportunities in this province have been lost. The aim of this study was to investigate the GYMNASIUMS role in the development of SPORT TOURISM in ISFAHAN.SWOT model was used to analyze the results. The method was based on applicable target and the descriptive nature of the case. Questionnaire and descriptive statistics were used for data collection and analysis. The results of this study showed that five factors of (a) lack of expert the field of SPORT TOURISM, (b) lack of suitable amenities and transportation for sports tourism, very low advertising in this domain, old buildings used as GYMNASIUMS and finally lack of experts in building GYMNASIUMS have all caused the weak development of SPORT TOURISM in GYMNASIUMS in the city. Finally it has been tried to present the approaches for optimal use of functionalities and available facilities in the SPORT TOURISM industry of ISFAHAN.
