Abstract

Aim and Background: There are some serious side effects such as psychological dependence, blood dyscrasia& etc subsequent to using synthetic drugs in order to treat unpleasant feeling due to VISCERAL PAIN. Based ontraditional medical care and some recent findings, FERULA gummosa is a type of herb with diverse therapeuticcharacteristics such as antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Evaluating palliativeeffects of FERULA gummosa on VISCERAL PAIN is the goal of this study. Methods and Materials: This experimental study was done on 40 N-MRI male mice. (36±4g). Mice weredivided randomly into control group, positive group (flunixine), treatment 1, treatment 2, and treatment 3. Thecontrol group and positive group received normal saline and flunixine (2mg/kg), respectively. The treatmentgroups (1, 2, and 3) received 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg of FERULA gummosa intra-peritoneally, respectively. The micereceived 0.6% acetic acid (10mg/kg) by injection 15 minutes after each treatment; and they were evaluated forvisceral pain induction during 30 minutes. The analgesic effect was recorded by counting the number of Writhing.Data was analyzed by SPSS statistical software using One-Way ANOVA and Tukey test with the significant levelof P<0.05.Findings: The extracts of FERULA gummosa with 25, 50, 100 mg/kg doses does not induce a significant reductionin pain response in comparison with negative control (P<0.05).Conclusions: This study confirms that FERULA gummosa has no palliative property on VISCERAL PAIN. Howeverfurther studies are needed to discover an Analgesic effect of its components.
