Abstract

Due to the high PREVALENCE of periodontal diseases, this study was carried out to estimate the severity and prevalance of GINGIVITIS in Tehranian PUPILs during 1994 - 1995.This descriptive study was performed in a multistage random sampling manner. A group of high school girl, 1080 students were selected. Oral status of each case was recorded by means of Gingival Index (GI), Debris Index - Simplfied (DI- S) and occlusal classification according to WHO recommendation. Results showed that 92.5% of the cases have some degrees of GINGIVITIS with confidence intervals being at 91 - 94%.Severity of GINGIVITIS was as follow: Mild 74.5% moderate 17.5% and severe 4%. DI - S was good in 36%, moderate in 55% and fair in 8.5% of the PUPILes. Over all 68% of the cases presented with some degrees of malocclusion.
