STUDY OF FACTORS OF INFLUENCING ON SEVERITY OF PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA IN STUDENTS OF FACULTIES OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY OF GOVERNMENTAL UNIVERSITIES UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF MINISTRY OF HEALTH, TREATMENT AND MEDICAL EDUCATION IN TEHRAN

Abstract

 Different factors can affect SEVERITY of dysmenorrhea. The purpose of the present study is to determinant factors influencing on SEVERITY of PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA in students of faculties of nursing and midwifery of universities under the supervision of ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education in Tehran.The research is a Descriptive - cross sectional study. In this study, 400 students were conveniently selected. The selected participants filled out the questionnaire consisted of demographic factors, status and the SEVERITY of menstrual pain, menstrual pattern, factors of body activities, attitude of person about menstruation and genetic background. According to the answers, the participants were classified into degree Zero (without dysmenorrhea), degree 1(mild), degree 2 (moderate) and degree 3 (severe). Using the SPSS program, variance analysis and Chi2, the statistical analysis was performed.Results showed that 18.7% of persons had menstruation without pain (degree Zero), 40.8% mild dysmenorrhea (degree 1), 28.0% moderate dysmenorrhea (degree 2) and 12.5% severe dysmenorrhea (degree 3). Results showed that There was a significant correlation between the SEVERITY of PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA with menarche (P<0.005), duration of menstrual cycles (P<0.025), regularity of menstrual cycles (P<0.025), good feeling in morning awaking (P<0.05), physical condition (P<0.025), attitude of person about menstruation (P<0.001) and genetic baseline (P<0.001). There was not a significant correlation between the SEVERITY of PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA and exercise.There are significant correlations between menarche, menstrual pattern, physical condition, attitude and genetic baseline with SEVERITY of PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA.
