Abstract

This study examined factors related to the REPRESENTATION of IDENTITY in CYBERSPACE among STUDENTS of Islamic Azad University of Tabriz in 2012. Theoretical framework of the study is Rosenberg’s symbolic interaction theory, Anthony Giddens and Habermas. The research method is survey and the statistical population of this study is 24686 people who were selected by stratified random sampling method and the sample size of the study are 378. The data was collected by questionnaire and its reliability measured using alpha Cronbach. Descriptive statistics are used and statistical methods for data analysis are Pearson correlation test, Independent T-Test of mean difference and also variance analysis are used to explain the criterion variable on multivariate regression analysis of predictors. The results showed that, the anonymity on the Internet, skill, space and social pressures were correlated with the IDENTITY REPRESENTATION on the Internet. Also, REPRESENTATION of IDENTITY between males and females was different. Finally, multiple regression analysis showed that, 34% of the variability criterion (IDENTITY REPRESENTATION) is defined by predictors. The findings suggest that culturization and informal training opportunities can provide the proper definition of the IDENTITY among young people.
