Abstract

REAL EXCHANGE RATE is one of the most important macroeconomic variables in any country. It identifies the degree of competitive power of the country in international economics. Therefore, to avoid exchange rate volatility one needs to determine its main important determinants. The purpose of the present paper is to explain the concept of REAL EXCHANGE RATE as well as to identify its main determinants in Iran during 1971-2009. Our findings based on the estimated regression models indicate a positive and significance relationship between REAL EXCHANGE RATE and TERMS OF TRADE but negative relationship between REAL EXCHANGE RATE and NON-OIL EXPORTS and government BUDGET DEFICIT.
