Pages

  10-16

Abstract

Introduction: Transmission of MALARIA has shown substantial heterogeneity. Evidently, considering all aspects of the transmission chain of MALARIA including vector, host, and MALARIA parasite are necessary for controlling MALARIA. The aim of this study is to examine the factors influencing on MALARIA transmission pattern in CHABAHAR city.Materials and Methods: In this CASE - CONTROL STUDY, we included 128 newly diagnosed patients with MALARIA as CASE and same number of control from CHABAHAR, southeastern district of Iran, from March to September 2012. The CASE and control groups were matched individually by age and sex. Data collection is conducted based on form No. 10 which is related to the epidemiological situation. For data analysis, we used Conditional logistic regression. Results: The most common symptoms of MALARIA were headache and fever. Moreover, 35.1% of MALARIA CASEs were imported from neighboring countries. The use of mosquito nets, spraying, air conditioners, previous history of MALARIA, and education level were found to be protective factors and history of travel during last year was considered as the major risk factor for the disease. Conclusion: The most important and effective measure to control MALARIA is the incorporated management of vectors, that is using the multiple preventive approaches.
