Abstract

Introduction: HEPATITIS A disease is caused by HEPATITIS A virus and transmitted by oral-fecal route and cause permanent immunity. It has relatively high prevalence in developing countries as the majority of people affected by the disease in childhood; therefore As a result, today the disease SEROLOGY in adults has decreased. This study was conducted for evaluating HAV IgG seropositivity in adult personnel working in a military hospital.Material and method: In this descriptive- cross sectional study 150 healthcare worker over 20 years of a military hospital were evaluated for history of HAV infection in 2011. 5 mili-liter of serum sample of these patients has been sent to the laboratory for detecting HAV IgG by ELISA method. Data were analyzed by SPSS-15 and Pearson test. Results: Total seropositivity of HAV IgG was 17.3% and the most frequent age group was 20-29 years. There was significant difference in the frequency of Anti HAV IgG in the age groups (P<0.001), but not in gender (P=0.526).Conclusion: These findings indicate that HAV seropositivity in older age groups has decreased. Regard to HAV endemicity in our country and the risk of catastrophic pandemic, vaccination against it seems to be necessary.
