Abstract

the Book Selection “The Simorgh of the Persian TALEs” is a compiled selection of oral TALEs and stories which have been heard by trainers of Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults from their native narrators in different parts of Iran, and those trainers recited them and aimed at familiarization of children and young adults with Iranian or Persian dialects, accents and languages. Among these stories, “Pesteh & Her Seven Brothers” is one of the stories most similar to the fairy TALEs regarding its structure. The MORPHOLOGY Theory of VLADIMIR PROPP is one of those theories which can be used for grading stories and fables based upon their form and structure. The study of Persian TALEs and fables based on Theory of VLADIMIR PROPP is a way for defining and finding these stories’ structures and defining their similarities and differences. In the present research, the authors have tried to study the story “Pesteh & Her Seven Brothers” based on VLADIMIR PROPP’s theory. The findings indicate that some of the thirty one functions mentioned by VLADIMIR PROPP can be found in this story. The story “Pesteh & Her Seven Brothers” loses its balance through the element of “Deception & Cospiracy” and eventually it returns to its balance by solving the problem and the return of the hero to its needs and requirements.
