Abstract

Objective: Trichomoniasis is one of the most common parasitic sexually transmitted disease in the world. Different methods are being used for the laboratory diagnosis of trichomoniasis, such as wet mount, various staining methods, Papanicolaou staining, culture, serological techniques and more recently, molecular techniques. In this study, a PCR targeting the 18s rRNA (16S-like ribosomal) gene of T. vaginalis was developed for the detection of the organism.Material and methods: Trichmonas vaginalis isolated from vaginal discharge, then cultivated in Diamond medium culture. DNA of the parasite extracted by phenol chloroform method, then a well-conserved region in the 18S RRNA GENE was amplificated successfully.Results: A specific band was detected by PCR giving a single predicted product of 312 bp in gel electrophoresis.Conclusion: Concerning the present result, PCR and designed primers could be recommended for diagnosis of trichomaniasis in the field study.
