Abstract

Noise can have many physiologic and psychologic effects. It causes derangement in peoples works, Activities, communication and sleep. In spite of advances in technology, researches show that the level of noise in hospitals is above internationally recommended levels and has many unwanted effects on staff and patients. The main sources of Sound pollution in hospitals are equipments noise and talks among personnel. This article discusses the main sources and effects of noise in three surrounding: the OPERATING ROOM, the RECOVERY ROOM, and the INTENSIVE CARE UNIT. Some guides in order to reduce sound pollution are also presented.
