Abstract

This Study was performed in descriptive method to determine the factors of disinclination to VASECTOMy in the health and treatment centers of Tabriz in 1996. The population consisted of 182 married men who were referred to tose centers for different health care reasons. The results showed that 70.3% refused VASECTOMy because of reluctance to become barren because of the risk of the inability to reverse the procedure. Of those surveyed, 17.6% refused because of pride and social problems, 14.8% refused because of the fear of reduction in sexual tendencies, 15.9% believed that it may bring some sort of advese effects, and 11 % did not have adequate information about it. From all of the confruet individuals, only 34,6% were ready for VASECTOMy. Among married men, 49.4% prefer tubectomy as a more suitable method of birth control. Over 61 % of individuals in the population accept VASECTOMy after their third child. The pride of men and the social problems related to the topic of VASECTOMy need more study.
