Abstract

This research is mainly geared to wards case-control study aiming to examine the effects of the execution of CTA Model on education for clinical practice for nursing students, which was done in the year 1999 and in two selected hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences to resolve the problems of the traditional training Method i.e non-cooperation and lack of sense of responsibility of the clinical wards in relation to training the students and also non-coordination between clinical observations and the thought matters in the classes. This research was designed using one of the successful models in this field and through "simple order sampling" 75 nursing students who were completing their training courses at the hospitals at the time of doing this research were included in the study, the students were randomly divided into two groups as "Case" and "Control". There were some of the experienced and able nursing staffs employed in different wards of the selected hospitals, having the special qualifications for entering into the research, they were included into the plan as the co-workers of education for clinical practice. After two weeks of clinical practice in the new Method, the students , instructors" and the co-workers views were gathered in different questionnaires and the results were compared with that of the traditional Method, as the results showed in control group; the students who were trained in the traditional Method with the maximlll11 of 56.4 % gained the minimum score from the questions of the questionnaires, in reply to the question that whether they found the ward an appro- priate and favorable place for gaining the clinical experience, most of them answered "At all" , in reply to the .question that whether they were satisfied with personnel's conduct and relations toward them, most of their answers were "Somehow" or "At all". In case group the students with the maximum of 51.4 % gained the score of 40-50, and in reply to the mentioned questions they responded they had found the ward a suitable and nice place for gaining clinical experience, and they were satisfied with the staffs" relations and conduct toward them, and they told they had gained the clinical skills in the related course as expected by the college authorities. The statistic examination of the score difference (with P<0.01) of two groups was meaningful, and the research assumption that the use of CTA Model was useful in improving the quality of education for clinical practice was confirmed and accepted. In addition, the effecacy of the execution of this model on the educational co-worker, college instructor and the process of the relations of the clinical wards with the Education Dept of the college was evaluated.
