A SURVEY ON THE DEMAND RATE FOR MEDICAL SERVICES AND RELATED FACTORS IN RAFSANJAN IN 2001

Abstract

 Introduction and Goal: the main goal of all methodologies in evaluating human services such as physicians is based on necessity, supply and demand. The goal of this study was to determine of the rate of demand and related factors formedica1 services in Rafsanjan.Meterials and Methods: This cross sectional study was completed in four steps in one year and on five hundred rural & urban families which were selected randomly. Data was collected by questionaire and interview; and they were entered to the spss. For data analysing descriptive statistics, Qui-square test and T -test were used.Results: 18.5%of all samples felt ill and there was a significant relationship between the rate of illness with age (p=0.000) and gender (P=0.000). there was no difference between the rate of illness in urban and rural areas but people in urban areas visited the physician more than rural area (p=0.000).23%of the pa- tients didn't refer to the physicians that had relationship with their place of living(p=0.000).2.1 % of samples had been hospitalized in the last three months and there was a significant relationship between the residential location and gender of the people in rural areas (p= 0.049). There was a significant relation ship between the preffered gender of the physician with gender (p=0.000) and residential location (p=0.000) of the patients.Conclusion: the results suggest that regarding the problem of rural people refering to physicians and their hospitalization rate, health care workers should try harder for promoting the rural people's knowledge and practice. Furthermore, services such as full insurance should be top priority in rural areas. Based on the findings it was also suggested that the gender of medical students should be taken into the consideration when they are admited to the universities and when physician are chosen for their practice distributed to are selected to the rural and urban areas.
