Abstract

The objective of this study is to compare the mean of seric glycosylated HEMOGLOBIN in patients with CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE with that in healthy control subjects. Selected subjects were examined for blood glycosylated HEMOGLOBIN by electrophoresis assay and blood glucose, BUN, Creatinine.Twenty- eight patients with CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE were referred to Dialysis unit of Faghihi hospital No. 2 of Shiraz from 1994-1995 and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study. The results were obtained which showed no significant differences between blood glucose in patients to compare to that of the control group (98± 25.4 vs. 100.1±34) but the difference between HbAl c in patients to compare with the control group was significant (8.3±2.3 to compare 5.7±0.8. P<0.00001). This study showed that gel electrophoresis could not be differentiated between glycosylated HEMOGLOBIN and other substances, thus this method isn't appreciated for metabolic survey of glucose in patients with CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE patients.
