Abstract

Background and purpose: One of the most fundamental requirements to achieve a comprehensive development in a country is training powerful and dynamic human resources in EDUCATION and RESEARCH. Purpose of this study was to determine the effect of RESEARCH oriented EDUCATION in the provision of applied nutrition course.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in years 1387-1392 in the Department of Public Health in Kermanshah for five semesters. The study group was public health students who had chosen Applied Nutrition course. Practical units was defined and implemented per semester as a RESEARCH project. Findings were published as scientific papers in journals.Results: Seven RESEARCH proposals have been approved by RESEARCH and Technology Committee of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences so far. Eight RESEARCH papers has been published from these studies and one paper is under review.Conclusions: The results revealed that running RESEARCH projects as a practical course can improve students’ RESEARCH skills and it would effectively help efficient scientific graduates as well as county scientific level.
